If Windows Roku Remote cannot find your Roku device even though both are on the same WiFi network, your Roku might be configured to block external control requests.
By default, most Rokus allow this, but some updates or privacy settings can disable it. Here is how to check and fix it.
Step-by-Step Guide
Grab your physical Roku remote (or use the mobile app if you have it connected) and follow these steps on your TV screen:
- Go to the Roku Home Screen.
- Select Settings from the left menu.
- Select System.
- Select Advanced system settings.
- Select Control by mobile apps.
- Select Network access.
Which setting to choose?
You will see two or three options. Ideally, you should select:
- Default (Recommended)
- or Permissive
If it is set to Disabled, Windows Roku Remote (and the official Roku app) will not be able to find or control your TV.
Restart your Roku
After changing this setting, it is often a good idea to restart your device to ensure the new network rules take effect immediately.
- Go to Settings > System > Power > System restart.
- Or, simply unplug the power cable, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
Ready to connect?
Now that external control is enabled, open Windows Roku Remote on your PC. It should discover your device instantly.
